Joystick Shield

Turns an Arduino into a handheld controller. A two-axis analogue thumbstick with a press-to-click function sits alongside several pushbuttons, and a socket accepts an nRF24L01 or similar wireless module so the whole thing becomes a remote control for a robot or RC vehicle. The joystick reads as two analogue values, making it straightforward to map to motor speed and steering.
