LM2596s Step-Down
LM2596 adjustable buck converter, 4-40V in, 1.25-37V out, 3A
The most widely used step-down module in hobby electronics, and for good reason. Unlike a linear regulator that burns the excess voltage as heat, a switching buck converter is around 90 percent efficient, so dropping 24V to 5V wastes very little power and the module stays cool. Turn the small multi-turn potentiometer to set the output. Always set the output voltage with the load disconnected and check it with a meter before connecting anything — the potentiometer has many turns and it is easy to overshoot. Around 90 percent efficient, runs far cooler than a linear regulator; Wide 4-40V input covers most DC supplies; Multi-turn potentiometer for precise output setting; Very low cost for a reliable buck converter
