An industrial incremental encoder that reports shaft rotation as electrical pulses, for position feedback, speed measurement and length counting on machinery. At 600 pulses per revolution it resolves roughly 0.6 degrees per pulse in single-edge counting, or four times finer if you decode all quadrature edges. A good general-purpose resolution on the heavier 8 mm shaft, balancing positional detail against pulse rate at speed. The NPN open collector output needs a pull-up resistor to your logic supply, and because it is incremental rather than absolute, position is lost at power-off and must be re-referenced against a home switch.
