A 1N4007 general purpose rectifier diode rated at 1000V and 1A. The workhorse rectifier diode. Used for mains rectification, reverse polarity protection and, most commonly in hobby work, as a flyback diode across relay coils and motors to absorb the voltage spike when they switch off. Its 1000V rating means one part covers almost every low-current rectifying job. Supplied in the standard axial through-hole package with the cathode marked by a band.
