A 1N4735 6.2V zener diode rated at 6.2V and 1A. A zener diode, which behaves differently from a normal diode: connected in reverse it holds a fixed voltage across itself once that voltage is reached. That makes it a simple voltage reference, an over-voltage clamp for protecting inputs, and a crude regulator for low current loads. Fit a series resistor to limit current - a zener without one will destroy itself. Supplied in the standard axial through-hole package with the cathode marked by a band.
