A 1N5819 Schottky rectifier diode rated at 40V and 1A. A Schottky diode, which drops only around 0.45 volts instead of the 0.7 of a normal silicon diode. That difference matters twice over: less power wasted as heat, and more voltage delivered to the load - which is why Schottkys are standard in switching converters and low voltage battery circuits where every tenth of a volt counts. It also switches very fast. Supplied in the standard axial through-hole package with the cathode marked by a band.
