Passive Buzzer

A passive buzzer has no internal oscillator, so it needs a square wave from the Arduino to make sound. That extra work buys you full control of pitch, which means melodies, alarm patterns and sound effects rather than a single fixed beep. The tone() function drives it directly. Choose this over an active buzzer whenever the sound itself needs to carry information — different tones for different alerts, for example.
