An industrial incremental encoder that reports shaft rotation as electrical pulses, for position feedback, speed measurement and length counting on machinery. At 360 pulses per revolution it resolves roughly 1 degrees per pulse in single-edge counting, or four times finer if you decode all quadrature edges. One pulse per degree on a heavier 8 mm shaft, convenient for angular positioning on larger equipment. The NPN open collector output needs a pull-up resistor to your logic supply, and because it is incremental rather than absolute, position is lost at power-off and must be re-referenced against a home switch.
